To benefit the victims of Hurricane Harvey and the Houston community, BBVA Compass Stadium will welcome a celebrity soccer match on December 16th, 2017. This event was conceived by former Houston Dynamo & US Men’s National team member, Stuart Holden.
After the devastation of the storm passed, I was inspired by the how the Houston community came together to support each other. It’s a community that welcomed me when my family immigrated from Scotland when I was 10 and gave me my first real chance at professional soccer with the Houston Dynamo. While I am thankful that my family’s homes were spared, I want to find a way to help the thousands who were not as fortunate.
Holden turned to social media for ideas on how best to help. His followers suggested a charity soccer match and the event blossomed organically from there. With commitments from some of the biggest soccer and sporting personalities in the United States, Holden hopes that this event will be an opportunity to bring the community together, raise money for flood and hurricane victims, and show that despite the uphill battle they face, the great state of Texas will persevere and stand together, #HoustonStrong
All donations will go directly towards the Houston Dynamo Charities Foundation. This money will be used to aid locals in Houston that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey
